Three ways to overcome procrastination

Procrastination steals hours of our life and increases our stress. Do you know that feeling of things hanging over your head, and you are filled with dread every time you remember you need to do them? Not all people procrastinate for the same reason. Some do it because they are perfectionists who set their standards so high that it becomes a monumental task to do anything. Others procrastinate because they have developed the habit of avoiding less preferred tasks. Most procrastinators feel a lot of guilt and worry that they are lazy.

They are not lazy. Procrastinators have fallen for a big lie they tell themselves. “I will be better off doing this later.”

So how can a procrastinator make changes?

1. Schedule tasks that are not preferred- If you know that you have a tendency to put off doing something, put it on the calendar. Carve out a date and time and do it then no

matter what.

2. Break large tasks into pieces you can do in 10 min. – Smaller tasks take less motivation to start. Once you have done a small part, you will be motivated by the natural momentum of accomplishment.

3. Do the most difficult tasks first- When you look at your list for the day, don’t put the hardest things last. This decision is the first step of procrastination. Do the most difficult things first.
