Depression in Adults

Depression in Adults is a medical illness, not a weakness of character. Recovery is the rule rather than the exception and treatment is effective for almost everyone. Unlike minor, temporary depression that is the normal result of a specific life situation, major depression rarely goes away on its own. There is no single cause of depression; biological, psychological and environmental factors can all play a part Depression is often brought on by some major, unpleasant stress, but some people experience depression at good times of their life. Feeling sad, tearful, hopeless, worthless and tired most of the time are significant signs of depression. Someone experiencing thoughts of suicide, insomnia or oversleeping, feelings of guilt and a loss of interest in the normal pleasures of life, may be suffering from depression.

Successful treatment for depression is readily available. Typically the treatment will include a combination of antidepressant medication and therapy. The best course is to get professional help to sort through the options and get treatment started right away.
