Grief and Bereavement
Even though a loss happens to a family, grief is completely individual. Everyone must mourn in their own way and for every person, the timetable is different. Sorrow and depression naturally accompany loss and it is important not to deny the feelings of sadness that survivors are entitled to have. Other feelings, like abandonment, guilt and even anger, can surface with a loss as well. Keeping these feelings from becoming overwhelming can be the hardest part of losing a loved one.
Trained counselors will share the stages of grief, helping the individual accept the feelings that come with each stage. Grief counseling will help survivors find what they can do to keep themselves from despair. Counselors can point the way to successfully coping with terrible loss, helping survivors keep a schedule, maintain the normal structure of their day, provide encouragement for reaching out to friends, and taking advantage of support systems.
